Thanks to everyone for making the commitment and taking the time to play in our first (and maybe only) COLLEGE ALUMNI GOLF TOURNAMENT. I think we all had a great time and a little break from the usual format. We had 11 of 12 scheduled to play with one "excused" absence (the exception is noted below). Now that the "formalities" are over, here are the results:
OFFICIAL RESULTS
CHAMPIONS
WOFFORD COLLEGE
The little boys from Wofford College - oops, excuse me - I meant the boys from little Wofford College captured the top spot and reign supreme in the College Alumni golfing world. Led by the senior member of the group, Walter, the others: Ron, Ernie and Larry played well enough to triumph over the opposing teams. That little Terrier mascot is probably out "yipping and yapping" and doing little doggie somersaults all over Spartenburg tonight! This unexpected victory rivals the upset of Appalachian State in football.SECOND PLACE
The boys from Clemson (Don, Brent, Duke and Tommy) came within a point of snatching victory from the Terriers (bow-wow) of Wofford. There seems to be a pattern here for the Tigers, just like the football team - always snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Early in the morning, however, the team suffered a devastating blow when they discovered that their low handicap player was out due to the "sniffles" (see below)!Copy of Tommy's note:
Unfortunately, the letter was received by the Tournament Director too late to make any team adjustments. So the Tigers, with heavy hearts, elected to go with the only replacement available and Hergy had to be recruited. Caught totally unawares and mentally and psychologically unprepared to enter into a competition of this magnitude, he managed to pull a +1 on his points. Alas, it turned out to be too little too late. Besides, he's a Corn Husker, not a rough and tumble Tiger man. So the boys from Upstate fell a little short.
THIRD PLACE
Shown above are Louie, Marshall, George and Jack. Just like their football team, cries of "wait 'til next year" rang out across the course until the rain washed them away.
Last Place

Unbeknown to all but the Tournament Director, a fourth team, the Mighty Blue Hose (nylons?) of Presbyterian College made a brief and tragic appearance on the course. Their play and decorum was so substandard that they were asked to pack up their kilts, garters and seamless Blue Hose and head back to Clinton. How they even found out about the Tournament is news to me!
George, he of the Dragon Slaying fame, shot a very impressive 83 to win the Medalist honors. He almost single-handedly raised the Gamecocks to victory, but the Terriers and Tigers were just too tough!
Walter led everyone today with a respectable +5 in the points category. The most experienced member of the Wofford contingent accepted his money gracefully and with dignity, unlike some Wofford members who do some sort of African victory dance and shout "I won the money, I won the money!" Walter, you're all class.Skill Winners
