It was 80 degrees today. Silly me, I thought it was late November......wait, it is late November! We had 8 1/2 golfers out this AM. The 1/2 is Mr. Moody who joined us for about 14 holes. Bob shot a 43 on the front and was still hitting the ball great when he retired on the 14th hole. We told him to bring money next time!
Individual Honors
Jack was the big hitter today. In fact, it wasn't even close. Jack was +9, shooting a 40-46=86 (and this is with a 23 handicap). Apparently, Jack had back-to-back birdies on the front and had his points before he even turned to the back nine! Take no prisoners, you big turkey! Tommy and Dan tied for second best with matching +4'sSeveral others notable rounds were shot this AM: Tommy shot the best nine today with a 39 on the back. Larry, Don and Tommy had 43's as well. Tommy, with his 43-39=82 was the medalist winner today. Overall the scores were pretty good for ALMOST all of the golfers today.
Team Competition
The team scores ended in a "split" decision. The team of Larry, Don, Jack and Ron shot a rousing +11 on the front to blow away the team of Dan, Tommy, Duke and Hergy, who managed a paltry - 1 on the Azalea, but rebounded, thanks to Tommy's 39, to win the backside (Dogwood) with a respectable +5 to our opponents -1/2. Of course, it was near impossible to overcome the +11 front nine score and we fell short on the 18, +10 1/2 to +5.
NEWS
Hergy suffered through a real rough round and was lucky to finish without getting hurt. As you will note the round took a toll on the poor little "Cornhusker" as shown with the before-after pictures. If you're not sure, the picture on the left was before the round and the picture on the right was taken shortly at the completion of 18 holes. When asked about his round, Hergy simply stated that what he needed was Don's magic scoring pencil (the one with the eraser) and he would have been able to challenge Jack for the point lead today!
