Wow, what a great day to play golf, the fall weather is out'a site. Take a look at the weather in the North and count your blessings! In fact, we had 10 golfers out today at the Midland Valley Country Club.
*
The course, what we saw of it, looked in pretty good shape. Unfortunately, we had to play the front nine twice as we had three ladies groups in front of us and of course, they were S-L-O-W.
But for only $18.00, we weren't in a real position to complain to much.
*
Every one's putting has been suffering over the last couple weeks, especially as we have gotten away from the Houndslake courses. I think the word we hear most ofter, that can be repeated in mixed company, is Fast, Fast, Fast! We are all having some difficulty with the speed and breaks of the unaccustomed greens.

*****POINTS*****
TV Louie surged to the top again, shooting a +9. Louie, if you continue to shoot these low scores, I have been authorized to contact several members of the Las Vegas competition committee (Vinnie and Joey) and make a little visit to TV-land to make a little adjustment to "The Rev's" remote control panel, if you get my drift!
*
Pissed off that he didn't win was Ron at +8, and finishing third and providing comfort and solice to the used and abused in our golfing fraternity was Hergy at +6. Medalist honors for the day went to Ron, shooting an 82, followed by Hergy and Louie at 84.

*****SCORES*****
As shown by the scoring summaries below, it is definitely better to play the same nine a second time than to go to another "strange" 9 holes, after all we need all the help we can get. Almost without exception, the second nines today were substantially better than the first. We had 13 rounds qualify for the scoring summary today. Pretty good total.
-39- Hergy, Ron
-40- Bob
-41- Walt
-42- Louie(2), Tommy
-43- George, Ron
-44- Tommy
-45- George, Hergy, Larry

*****TEAM COMPETITION*****
For only the second time I can remember we had the "unique" situation of a three way split of the team challenge, without the benefit of a tie.
*
The team of Walt, Ron and Don stormed out of the gate with a blazing +7.5 point total on the front nine. Sagging a little bit to +.5 on the second nine , they finished the 18 at a very commendable +8.
*
The heavenly selection of George, Hergy and Bob coughed up the winners of the second nine with a total score of +11. However, a very poor start on the first nine, -3, doomed this group to finish at +8 as well.
*
Not to be outdone, the third team of Louie, Tommy, Larry and Jack managed to play very steady, but unspectacular rounds of +7 (losing the front by .5), and +8 (losing the second round by +3). Even though unspectacular, they ended up winning the 18 by scoring a near-record total of +15 points, eclipsing both of the nine hole winners in the process.
*
Everybody won! As they used to say on Rowan & Martin's Laugh-in "Isn't that special!!

*****ITEMS*****
Haven't talked to Jan or Brent directly yet, but the rumor floating about is that Brent's knee replacement went well and he should be home either today or tomorrow.
*
*
There is talk about hitting the "road" a little more often rather than deal with back-up, tee manipulations and slow-play delays at Houndslake. We can get rates of under $25 ($18.00 today) at Midland Valley, a $25.00 fee at Aiken Golf club and a $28.00 rate at Cedar Creek.
All of these rates are cheaper than what we are paying for a round of golf at Houndslake - yes, even cheaper than those of us on the golf and cart plans (by $10 -15 per round)!
*
When (if) they close Laurel, it will only get worse! We'll discuss more as the Laurel situation comes to some sort of conclusion in early January.
