I guess this picture says it all. We had a three-way tie for the points lead today. Hergy, Brent and Ron had a "0" today. Hergy shot a "wonderful" 42-48 (90), Brent shot a "wonderful" 46-42 (88) and "wonderful" Ron dazzled with a 44-47 (91). Walt was close with a -1, therefore only "glimmering" and not "dazzling".
Other notable nines: ? = there weren't any!
Team Competition
Unfortunately for one of the foursomes, today was not a very good day. If you will note the "Individual Honors" above and the players mentioned there......they were all on the same team.
Ron, Hergy, Walt and Brent managed a rather good + 3 1/2 on the front, on the back nine (Azalea) they were accosted by the PLAGUE, LOCUSTS, FIRE & BRIMSTONE or some other diseased concoction of the "DEVIL" as they stumbled and bumbled to a -4 1/2 on the back for an overall 18 hole total of -1. Can anybody say p-u-t-t! Hit it on the green and add three strokes!
It was rumored that whatever the problem was, it emanated from something Duke brought/left on the course the last time he played. Since the editor wasn't with that group during that fateful round, I must defer to those who were there and witnessed the trauma. All that being said, we still won!
The unfortunate opponents of this Plague- riddled round were TV Louie, Dr. Larry, St. George and Grandpa Jack. It is rather apparent that this group struggled today since they couldn't even challenge a -1 total score. As far as I know, no one got hurt and they all made it back safely. They were also very good sports as they chucked their money into the pool and we sucked it up like a Hoover! We did, however, say Thank You!
News
***********
- Aiken Golf Club Outing - the person I spoke to indicated that starting Sunday they were going to be over-seeding the greens. She felt that by Tuesday everything would be back to normal and shouldn't impact our play.
- River Course Outing - North Augusta - we will firm this up in the next newsletter, but as of now, we will meet at the HCC at 9:15 am on Thursday and arrange for transportation, etc., to North Augusta.
- New Blog - next week I will be switching Blog sites and using a little more "techie" friendly format. I will be kicking off the new blog with several "Special Editions".
- The content of the Special Editions will deal with the College Alumni Golf Tournament that was held last week. I wrote letters to each of the schools (actually I wrote to the SID's -Sports Information Directors) involved indicating the format, participants and results of the tournament.
- This Special Editions will deal with the rather "unusual" responses I have received to date. So far, I have heard from Wofford and Clemson, nothing yet from USC. Be sure to mark your calendars - the first "Wofford" report will appear either on Monday the 15th or Tuesday the 16th. Clemson will follow (16th or 17th) and then the "Men of the Chicken" (17th - 18th).
- I assume that I heard from the Terriers ( the tiny, tiny Terriers (bow-wow) first since they won it. The Clemson Tigers probably responded because second place is head-and-shoulders above what their football team has been doing and USC may be too "snooty" to reply since they are now some kind of SEC "biggie", and as Dr. Larry always says, "there's no time for the little people".
- It should also be noted that Dr. Larry has switched from referring to us as the "little people". As of last week, we are now referred to as the "scum". Thank you for the kind words and thoughts, Dr. Larry!
Until we meet again,
The Editor
