Thursday October 25th 10:00 - 10:08am Azalea - Dogwood Course
We took our last road trip today to the River Course in North Augusta. I guess it was the proverbial good news - bad news situation. The good news was the course was in good shape. We were allowed to play in fivesomes. The bad news: we believe their distances were mis-marked. The weather was a little sticky and the course played l-o-n-g, l-o-n-g, l-o-n-g. That being said, here are the results:

Individual Honors
The Clemson "Mauler" showed up today. Brent fired an astonishing +10 or a nasty 78 (37-41). Considering the course, distance and greens, that is an unbelievable round! Congratulations Brent!Other notables: Brent's 37 and 41 led the way. Larry shot a very good 42 and Ron shot a 43. Lots of 45's and 46's. After that, it was a struggle for most of the troops.

Team Competition
------------------
Unfortunately, as they say in football, "after further review" it was determined that this competition was over after the first team of Brent, Jack, Marshall, Ron and Don decided that we would play from the white tees rather than the golds. Since Brent, Jack, Ron and Don (sorry, Marshall) are all long off the tee, they were able to chop the course down to size and won both 9's and the 18 without much of a challenge. The other group of Hergy, Walt, Larry, Duke and Louie (kind of the anti-long hitters) were over-matched and struggled to keep their heads above water. This is not to make excuses for the way Team "B" played, it's just a statement of fact! The course length, set-up, and the fact that we didn't putt or generally play very well, added to our demise. As Duke so ably put it, "the best thing about this course was the chicken salad sandwich at the turn." Okay, enough crying, we lost and deservedly so!

News
-------
I'm not sure what is happening on Saturday. Nothing has been set up as far as tee times, but there was some interest. I think Ron and Larry were looking to play, so maybe check in with them if you're interested in playing. All the scores from the Myrtle Beach outing, Aiken Golf Club and The River Course have been turned in to the Pro shop for entry into the handicap system.

Football Predictions
-----------------------------
South Carolina 35 Vanderbilt 7
(USC's defense is too good - Vandy can't handle it)
Clemson 31 Central Michigan 10
(Finally a team they can handle)
Nebraska 14 Texas A & M 47
(Good- bye Callahan - we want Bowden, we want Bowden)
(Just kidding! Clemson and Bowden are a good match)
Wofford 30 Elon 10
(Rumor has it that if they win, Puppy will be released without bail and get his Puppy bus privileges reinstated, but he still will not be allowed to have women in his room.)
