******************************************
Fall golf has arrived. Apparently the weatherman has finally figured out that it is fall in South Carolina and it should be in the mid 70's, not the low 90's. Had a great turnout this morning, 9 properly attired golf persons (politically correct reference) showed up for the big dance. Much to our chagrin, they had no record of our tee time! Duh! Anyway, we were able to play Dogwood - Laurel and had a great day on the Links!

Individual Honors

A funny thing happened on the way to the Payout this afternoon. The person on the right, Mr. ERA, reportedly shot a +4 with a handicap of 19. Mr. Clemson guy on the left, shot a +3 1/2 with a handicap of 19. The money was divided and split accordingly. However, a red towel was tossed onto the table (this signifies a request for a coaches' challenge) and a review of the scorecards was ordered by an independent referee. It was discovered that Mr. Allen's handicap had changed to an 18, which everyone including Mr. Allen, had failed to note. Therefore, upon further review, the original decision had to be reversed, a point was deducted from Mr. Ernie's score to account for the change in handicap, bringing him to a total score for 18 to +3 (not +4), therefore, awarding today's point trophy to the "The Duke" with an "honest" +3 1/2.

Duke, as he laughingly stuffed the money into his already bulging billfold, said, "I feel bad about the mistake and hope Ernie will understand." Duke also won the medalist honors with an 86. Ernie was second with 87, with Brent (89) and Hergy (90) close behind.

Team Honors

The team scores were also screwed up as a result of the handicap mix-up. The team of Larry, Louie and Brent stormed to a great +7 point total to win the front, but crashed on the backside to a meager -8, finishing overall with a -1 for 18. The team of Ernie, Hergy and Jack played a steady round finishing with -1 1/2 on the front (adjusted) and a +1 1/2 (adjusted) on the back to finish the 18 at "0". The backside score +1/ 1/2 was good enough to win the back nine, but because of the stroke adjustment, it allowed the team of Ron, Don and Duke, who shot a +3 1/2 front and a -3 1/2 on the back for an 18 hole total of "0", to tie for the 18-hole victory!

News
*****************************
  1. Louie today, in flexing his golf muscles on #4 Dogwood, out-drove one of the big hitters (BB) in his group by bouncing the ball several times (at least three) on the cart path and then strutted around in true "Gamecock" fashion about his long drive prowess! Hey, Chicken man....get a life!
  2. It has been suggested to help clarify our tee time standing with the club, it may be helpful to use one name and they will set up a "regular time" for us each week! Therefore:
  3. We are going to have a "NAME THE GROUP CONTEST".
  4. This contest is open to all of our group golfing members, their spouses (real and imagined), pets (real and imagined), friends (real and imagined) and lovers (real and imagined).
  5. All entries should be sent to me (respond on my e-mail with the link, please).
  6. There are usually 12-13 members "eligible", so any reference to the number "12" or to the word "dozen" or "thirteen", etc., would be appropriate.
  7. The names will be voted on and the winner will be announced at the Christmas Party. (No references to puppies, terriers, tiger paws, chickens, or gamecocks will be allowed. References to corn, cornhuskers, Big Red, Big 12 Conference (vs. wimpy ACC and SEC crap) is okay.
  8. A nice gift will be given to the winning entry.
  9. The winning entry must pass the dreaded "TROLL CENSOR" who lives with the Editor and keeps this blog clean and forthright.
  10. Clear your calendar...December 18th, Christmas Dinner @ 6:30ish! Details to follow! Thanks to Bob Moody for making the arrangements.
