~~~~~
We are going to have a "double-banger" today, that is, we're going to combine Saturday's post with the competition results from today. On Saturday, we had a somewhat sparse outing, with only 5 golfers available for the day. Today, Tuesday, we had a very good turnout of 11 members as we work to finish out the 2008 golf session.
*
The golf course is playing very W-E-T and is therefore slow and L-O-N-G. All in all, the course is in okay shape. Once it dries out, we'll have to evaluate it again and see if it has a more positive impact our golf in any manner. From my standpoint, it can only help my game!
*
******SATURDAY SKIN GAME*****
Since we had kind of an odd number on Saturday, we decided to convert to a $.25 Skins game w/ trash ($.25 as well). We play the Azalea, but unfortunately, because of our five some appearing to be a little slow, (that was the perception anyway), but the fact was we finished our first nine "on-time" was of little concern to the dogfight, following behind us!.
*
As a result, since we were being pushed by the first group in the dog fight, we decided rather than screw around with allowing them play through (1 threesome and 2 foursomes) and all the frustration that entails, we decided to play the front (Azalea) again as it was open and available. We could have gone to the Laurel, but as wet as it was, we would have been mired down in the mud!
*
That being said, with 22 Skins eventually at stake, Ron turned out to be the big winner. Playing good solid golf, he was able to walk away with 10 skins ($12.50). In second place was the Paint-boy with 7 ($8.75 - all won on one stinking hole, by the way with a nice birdie on a Par 3 with 4 carryovers) and Tommy was third with 5 ($6.25).
*
Picking up the freight for all of this golfing artistry was the newly crowned POY (Larry), resting on his laurels, didn't scratch any skins or trash for his second straight shut-out. The last and least threatening (skill-wise) member of the group, Hergy, finished without any skins or trash either, but he did set the all-time Houndslake CC "putter-throw" record of 57' 3 3/4" on the 16th green after missing his 5th putt from within 4'. Congrats to Hergy....that record has stood for over 14 years and was thought to be unbeatable!
*****TUESDAY POINTS COMPETITION*****
This morning we had a tie for the sandbagging title.....no, no that's not fair! Let' s start over!!!*
This morning we had a tie for the Points Championship between Louie and Jack at a very resounding +10. That's right bloggies, two golfers at +10 in the same round on the same day. Somehow it seems to be some sort of poetic justice that they tied, doesn't it?
*
Not only that, but Duke, who lost as well, was at +8 and finished a distant 3rd. Wow! that's a lot of points for just three guys, and Jack and Duke were in the same group. Care to guess who maybe won the Team Championship?....Duh!
*
Louie also was the Medalist of record today, posting his career best 81, followed by Duke, Tommy and Bob with 85's. Don was the only other golfer in the 80's ,with an 89, to tag along with the big hitters!
*
*****HONOR ROLL*****
We had a pretty good session today. We had a net total of +29 for the day today. That's a lot of positive points. The average score today was 89.5, which is almost exactly what our Y-T-D scoring average since January 1 has been. BTW, I will post all of the statistics for this year after the season in finished - December 23rd!
-40- Louie
-41- Tommy, Louie, Duke
-42- Jack, Bob
-43- Bob
-44- Tommy, Larry, Don, Ron, Duke
-45- Hergy, Don
*****TEAM COMPETITION*****
As I mentioned above, there wasn't much of a team competition this morning. The team of Duke, Jack and Bob waltzed away with the entire victory. Posting a rather "average" score of +4 1/2 on the Azalea, they zeroed in on the Dogwood to shoot a + 12 1/2 to finish at +17 for the day....a great day, but still 4 short of the 2008 record.
*
The team of Don, Ernie, Ron and Louie finished second with a +2 (Azalea), +6 (Dogwood) for a +8 for the eighteen. Good but w-a-a-a-y behind the leaders.
*
Last and least, the final team of Tommy, Larry, Walt and Hergy finished with positive but uncompetitive scores of +2 1/2 on Azalea, +1 1/2 on Dogwood for a total of +4.
*
Second place and third place could have been combined and they still would have finished 5 points behind the first group. Now that's domination!
*
